Digital display and beeper

Listen to the trap electronics!

The Maxi-Prises trap is an automated machine designed to eliminate rats. It is equipped with cutting-edge technology and programming. When in operation, its screen displays various data every 10 to 20 seconds, such as supply voltage, activation of bird protection mode, number of rodents electrocuted, false detections and number of intruders.

The trap's electronics also signal if an infrared barrier is obstructed or dirty. In the event of a problem, the trap can shut down automatically. In the presence of daylight or if a building's lighting is switched on, the trap emits a long beep every 10 to 20 seconds to signal a problem.

Two short beeps indicate one or more electrocuted rats, mice or other rodents. When the trap emits a beep, it is advisable to intervene as soon as possible.

After two or three days, if you have not had to work on a trap, we recommend that you look at the information on the digital screen.

The events displayed on the screen will be cleared automatically when you stop the trap. When the trap is switched on, for a few milliseconds, it will display the number of electrocutions, intruders and false detections since the trap was first switched on.

When the Maxi-Prises trap is switched on, a multitude of checks are carried out. For a few milliseconds, the digital screen displays:

When the trap is activated

R = Total number of electrocutions

since the trap was first switched on. This indicates the total number of rodents you could have eliminated. Usually these are rats and mice.

F = Number of false detections

since the trap was first set off. The trap could be triggered by the wind carrying straw, feathers, spider webs, flies, etc. Avoid false detections to prevent premature wear of the trap.

What's more, in the event of a false detection, the trap remains inactive for some time.

During control (about 2 seconds)

The trap emits a short beep, closes and also checks the 3 infrared barriers IR1, IR2 and IR3. It then opens, emits a short beep, displays "Ok" on the digital screen and indicates the +-12.3V voltage every 10 to 20 seconds, meaning that the trap is armed and ready to capture. If the trap displays "bird protection", it will pause and activate automatically in the dark.

If there is a long repetitive beep, check the inscription on the screen and take action by disconnecting the power supply to the trap. 1 long beep = error(s) 2 short beeps = rat(s), rodent(s) electrocuted. These signals are repeated every 10 to 20 seconds.

IR1, IR2, IR3 problem

If one or more infrared barriers are obstructed, the trap emits a long beep and the display indicates which IR(s) (IR1, IR2 or IR3) is causing the problem. Remove what is obstructing the IR barrier or clean the IR protectors with a soft cloth!

When the trap is in motion

If the trap is mains powered

using a 230V-12Vdc adapter, the display will show +- 12.3 Volts.

If the trap is battery-powered

12V, the display will show 12.8V, for example. When the battery is discharged, from 11.7V onwards, the screen flashes 4 times every 10 to 20 seconds (you need to charge the battery), and at 11.4V, the trap switches off and emits a long beep until it responds.

Bird protection

If the cursor is positioned to the left, after switching on, the trap display will note 'Bird Protection' every 10 to 20 seconds.

When the display shows bird protection, this means that bird protection mode is activated.

To set the trap to bird protection mode, move the slider to the left. This will prevent birds from being caught during the day. The trap switches off automatically in daylight or when there is lighting and switches on again in the dark.

Close to a light source, the trap may always remain paused and never come on because the twilight sensor may think it's daytime.

When the trap is in the dark

After a few moments, it automatically switches on and displays the voltage. If a torch or other light source is used, the trap can pause again and display "bird protection".

Be careful, in 24/24 mode (day and night function) during the day you could trap birds! Be careful and respect nature. Avoid placing the trap where there are birds. If there is a risk, set the trap to "bird protection" mode and do not use baits such as seeds or other things that might attract birds!

F= False detections.

1 long beep every 10 to 20 seconds. If the trap makes a capture and there is no movement inside, it will open after 45 minutes. The screen will then display 1 false detection. In principle, the trap could be triggered by wind carrying dust, straw, feathers and spider webs. Spiders, flies and other insects could also cause false detections.

If a series of false detections occurs, the infrared barriers will automatically pause and reactivate after a few hours. During this time, the trap will not capture any animals. Remedy the problems to avoid premature wear of the trap. If the trap refuses to restart, disconnect the power supply for 20 seconds and reconnect it.

I = Number of intruders.

1 long beep every 10 to 20 seconds. If the trap has captured, for example, a hedgehog, pigeon, cat, old rat, poisoned rodent, etc. or any other animal which is too large (diameter 75mm) to climb towards the electrocution cell. They will be released after approximately 3h30 minutes.

Avoid baits that could attract animals other than rodents!

11 RAT= Number of electrocutions

2 long short beeps every 10 to 20 seconds.

You should have 11 rodents in the trap tray. It is important that the number of rodents electrocuted equals the number shown on the display. If necessary, disconnect the trap, clean the electrodes and check the underside of the electrocution cell (see maintenance of DétruiRAT traps).

If there are more rats than shown on the screen, you could have taken several samples at once. Empty the tank daily to avoid the proliferation of flies and other insects that could cause false detections! The bird protection mode could prevent this kind of false detection during the day.

The beeper and the twilight sensor

Warning: if you hide the twilight sensor, the bird protection mode will not be activated.

The twilight sensor controls operation of the beep signal and bird protection mode. The beep is activated only when there is natural light or any source of light nearby.

How does the beeping sound work and how can it be deactivated? During the day or in the presence of light, the beep attracts your attention so that you can act quickly on the trap. In the dark, the beep is deactivated.

If you don't want to hear the beep, for example to avoid disturbing a small farm or other animal, you can place a black sticker (thick or double) on the face of the twilight sensor, located under the bird protection mode slider. In this way, the twilight sensor will be in the dark and the beeper will not sound.

However, note that if the twilight sensor is hidden with a sticker, bird protection mode will not work, as the twilight sensor will always be shielded from the light.

What's more, by hiding the twilight sensor, you won't be alerted to any problems or captures, which could lead to rats decomposing in the trap. This could lead to false detections, premature wear and tear, and the decomposing rats could damage the trap.
